She has no idea how to use the mouse at all, so I’m looking for games that will help her learn how to navigate the screen and get the hang of the mouse. So they just need to be engaging and have lots of stuff to click on. Any other suggestions for helping her learn to use the mouse? A friend told me the best way is to just let her go at it on her own, that trying to help her move the mouse around will only confuse her. Any subject matter is good, simple games, etc.
Okay, you people are taking this way, way too seriously. First of all, we don’t have cable or any other kind of TV set up to get any channels. She doesn’t watch TV. I never said I was looking for something to babysit her for hours so I can file my nails or yak on the phone. She likes to sit with me when I’m working on the computer and is interested in some of the games on the PBS kis website–but I don’t want her to practice with the mouse on the internet, as I don’t want her accidentally messing anything up. I see no problem developmentally or otherwise with sitting with her on my lap and letting her use the mouse while we play a children’s computer game together. It isn’t mindless if we are conversing and interacting, if she isn’t left alone with the game, and if she is being prompted to figure things out, etc. In a way, it’s no different than when I read to her and ask her questions about the story or pictures, let her fill in parts she knows. Just more stuff to do in a game.
go to your local library they are great with that!
I bought my daughter Dr. Suess games specifically for her level, hardly cost me anything and she really enjoyed it.

a computer games for 3 year old?.. are you insane?.. the child of that age should be watching no more than an hour of tv per week and you are giving her access to unlimited (and mind-numbing) computer games?.. that’s where the development stops.. why does she have to use the mouse?.. if she instead learns to read, i think it will be much more beneficial than learning how to click the mouse.. a monkey can click the mouse – a child is much more advanced and should be treated as such..

open a word document, there are tons of pictures there….she’ll be busy for at least a couple of hours lol or let her have at it with paint… virtual colouring yay! ;D or you can actually get online and play virtual educational games with Dora and the like. my daughter had been using the mouse since she can sit up straight by herself… at 3yo she can load the dvd-rom, load her favorite programs, read virtual books, type endlessly on word, paint her masterpieces and turn on or shut the laptop. she can easily locate that drop-down to connect to the internet where her favorite kiddie website is (yes she is supervised and yes her personal desktop is set up according to her needs and restrictions ;D) … no she doesn’t chat lmao well she does with me to say hi to grandma on cam… I think all her colour recognition, math prowess, language ability, important concepts such as opposites, cause effect and analytical skills had been accelerated by being techno sav vy. However, this did not diminish her love for real books and real play and yes real paint! ;D she’s very sociable and has plenty of friends/playmates. Oh yeah by the way I’m a disciplinarian, so I got a well behaved child as well. My twins, I dunno yet what their interests will be, so I shall see what parenting style will suit them best.
